Today’s Sunday School Lesson
New Testament Postcards: The Book of I John, Fellowship with God - That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched – this we proclaim concerning the Word of Life.
Today’s Sermon
I Corinthians 7, Questions About Marriage - Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry. But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.
The Sarah Corner – “And Sarah laughed”
Foreigners: The truck driver looked suspiciously at the soup he had just been served in an eatery. It contained dark flecks of seasoning, but two of the spots were suspicious. "Hey," he called out to the waitress, "these particles in my soup, aren't they foreign objects?" She scrutinized his bowl. "No, sir!" she reassured him. "Those things live around here."
For Sunday School on October 14 Johnnie Jackson has offered to teach the adult class for Greg so he can have a break after Tim and Christa’s wedding. We greatly appreciate Johnnie’s gracious kindness in helping. Greg will handle the worship service.

New Testament Postcards: Philemon 21-25, Paul’s Confidence in Philemon - With full confidence in your obedience I write this to you, knowing that you will do even more than what I ask.
Today’s Sermon
I Corinthians 6:12-20, What’s A Body to Do? - For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
As believers in Christ and with the indwelling Holy Spirit, we are joined to the Lord in one spirit, therefore we cannot join our bodies to another unless it is sanctioned by God, and that is only in the marriage relationship.
The Sarah Corner – “And Sarah laughed”
Country Tunes: My wife and I were browsing in a crafts store when I noticed a display of country-style musical instruments. After looking over the flutes, dulcimers and recorders, I picked up a shiny, one-stringed instrument I took to be a mouth harp. I put it to my lips and, much to the amusement of other shoppers, twanged a few notes on it. After watching from a distance, my wife came up and whispered in my ear, "I hate to tell you this, honey, but you're trying to play a cheese slicer."

Today’s Sunday School Lesson
New Testament Postcards: Philemon 18-25 - If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account.
Today’s Sermon
I Corinthians 6:1-11: Obsessed with Being Right - Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? Once we understand our position in Christ and our surrender to the truth, and that doing what is in the best interests of Jesus Christ rather than ourselves is the highest priority of our lives, then minor disputes have no legs; they are resolved easily.
The Sarah Corner – “And Sarah laughed”
Sermon Sub: A minister was called away unexpectedly by the illness of a close family member. He entrusted his new assistant with filling the pulpit. The Pastor's wife stayed home. When he returned, the minister asked his wife what she thought of the young man's sermon. "The poorest I've ever heard," she said. "There was nothing in it, nothing at all. It didn't even make sense. It was very unorganized. I was disappointed." Later that day, the concerned minister met his assistant and asked him, "How'd the Sunday service and sermon go? Did all go well? How did you manage?" "All went very well, sir, absolutely wonderful," he said. "I didn't have time to prepare a new sermon of my own on such short notice, so I got on your computer and pulled up one of your old sermons from last year."

Today’s Sunday School Lesson
New Testament Postcards: Philemon 12-18, Paul pleads with Philemon to forgive Onesimus and accept him back. Paul was sending Onesimus back just as if he was sending himself. This is the way Christians ought to speak to each other, with the right characterization of the situation according to Scripture and in accepting responsibility for what we are asking each other to do.
Today’s Sermon
I Corinthians 5, No Man is an Island: Sin’s Pervasive Power to Pollute - Both God and the world expects the church to be holy. The allowance of flagrant and public sin to continue without discipline in the church pollutes us all. Even the world recoils at our unwillingness to confront and discipline. In this chapter Paul calls on the Corinthians to remove the immorality from their midst in order to bring the church back to holiness.
The Sarah Corner – “And Sarah laughed”
Beware of Bear
Vacationing in Alaska, I couldn't help but notice all the warnings about bears posted in campgrounds, visitors' centers and rest areas advising people not to feed the bears, how to avoid bears, what to do if a bear sees you, what to do if a bear attacks, and so on. My favorite, however, was a hand-lettered sign on the door of a small gas station in a remote area. It said: "Warning! If you are being chased by a bear, don't come in here!"

Since the time that we called attention to our financial situation as a church, we have not had to borrow from our savings account in order to pay the lease. This is good news, and we can positively approach the coming review of the next lease term for our church. We will keep you informed.

Needing to arise early the following morning, Mr. Smith left a note on his wife's bedside table that said "Wake me at six." An exasperated Mr. Smith awoke at ten the following morning and rolled stiffly out of bed to see a note on his bedside table: "It's six! Get out of bed!"
