The Book of Jude: Contending Earnestly for the Faith

Today’s Sermon
When Kings Will Worship the King of Kings - Daniel 4
The kingdoms of this world will be brought into subjection to Jesus Christ by God. “Every knee shall bow” is not a poem; it is a promise.
There is no reason to engage in hand-wringing over the current state of affairs; they are serious enough to pray for and certainly we should vote, but things are not so serious that we cannot be at peace.

FREEDOM BAPTIST CHURCH - June 22, 2008

FREEDOM BAPTIST CHURCH
June 22, 2008

The Freedom Baptist Church is an unaffiliated, independent Baptist church located in Colorado Springs, CO. The church’s pastor is Greg A. Chandler, a 1978 graduate of the Independent Baptist College in Dallas, TX (school now located in Fort Worth). Greg is a bi-vocational pastor who works full-time at another job while administering the church.

The church is primarily Baptist in doctrine and practice but independent in its function. We belong to no group or association of churches under any name. We enjoy fellowship with like-minded believers as we meet them in our community and around the world.

The purpose of this church is to meet together to honor and glorify God in fulfilling its Biblical mission of: worshiping God in Spirit and in truth; encouraging one another in genuine fellowship; teaching the Scriptures in depth; and sharing the gospel with people that the members of the church come in contact. We seek to fulfill our purpose with grace, relevance, and authenticity in full adherence to the principles of the Word of God.

Small churches can have an impact on the community and the world by living authentically in agreement with the infallible Word of God. It is our prayer that if the Lord directs your spiritual journey to come into contact with us that you will come to know the Lord in a deeper way because the Freedom Baptist Church was there. At the very least, we hope to do you no harm in your journey. Pastor Greg Chandler

The Book of Jude: Contending Earnestly for the Faith
Apostates of the Present – Verses 8-10
Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. He refers now to “filthy dreamers,” returning to the apostates within the church from the apostates of the past. These were “vile” dreamers of the Gnostic faith who used visions and dreams as a way of stating that they were directed by angelic beings (Col. 2:18). The Gnostic false teachers were described by Jude as polluters of their bodies like those in Sodom and Gomorrah. The Gnostic teaching on the separation of body and soul led them to extremely wicked acts in their bodies, and Jude compares them accurately to the Sodomites.

Today’s Sermon
Get Wisdom – Getting Through the Storm
Proverbs 4:18-27 and Luke 6:45-49
The wise advice of a father can guide our lives with sureness and stability. Wisdom is the way of light, but it requires an intense focus. Wisdom is a lady that is worth pursuing and will result in honor and exaltation for us. Wisdom will not betray us. The examples provided at the end of Proverbs 4 and in one of the sermons of Jesus provide further reinforcement to our pursuit of wisdom. Go get it!

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Kid’s Prayers:
  • A pastor asked a little boy if he said his prayers every night. “Yes, sir,” the boy replied. “And, do you always say them in the morning, too?” the pastor asked. “No sir,” the boy replied. “I ain't scared in the daytime.”
  • A Rabbi said to a precocious six-year-old boy, “So your mother says your prayers for you each night? That's very commendable. What does she say?” The little boy replied, “Thank God he's in bed!”
  • The preacher's 5 year-old daughter noticed that her father always paused and bowed his head for a moment before starting his sermon. One day, she asked him why. “Well, Honey,” he began, proud that his daughter was so observant of his messages; “I'm asking the Lord to help me preach a good sermon.” “How come He doesn't answer it?” she asked.
  • A Sunday school teacher asked, “Johnny, do you think Noah did a lot of fishing when he was on the Ark?” “No,” replied Johnny. “How could he, with just two worms?”
Today’s Sunday School Lesson
The Book of Jude: Contending Earnestly for the Faith
“The faith” (used also in Gal. 1:23 and I Tim. 4:1; reference also Heb. 4:14) is the body of truth contained in the Scripture that was delivered “once for all.” This means that there will be no new truth added. All we need to hear from God we have heard in the Scripture.
Today’s Sermon
Obadiah – The Kingdom will be the Lord’s
This is the shortest book in the Old Testament. Today’s tormentors will not always plague us, for God’s wrath is inevitable against His enemies. Those who oppress may feel superior in taking advantage of us today, but their judgment is coming, for “pride goes before the fall.” God’s wrath against His enemies is an expression of grace to His people. “And saviors shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.” (verse 21)

Children’s letters to God – Dear God:
  1. In Bible times did they really talk that fancy?
  2. I bet it is very hard for you to love all of everybody in the whole world. There are only 4 people in our family and I can never do it.
  3. I went to this wedding and they kissed right in church. Is that OK?
  4. I think the stapler is one of your greatest inventions.
  5. Thank you for the baby brother but what I prayed for was a puppy.
  6. Please put another holiday between Christmas and Easter. There is nothing good in there now.
  7. If you watch in church on Sunday I will show you my new shoes.
  8. I would like to live 900 years like the guy in the Bible.
  9. If you had not let the dinosaurs go extinct we would not have a country. You did the right thing.
  10. Please send Billy Clark to a different camp this year.
  11. Maybe Cain and Abel would not kill each other so much if they had their own rooms. It works with my brother.
