The Book of Revelation: 7:9-17, 8
The Multitude of Martyrs and the Seven Trumpet Judgments
"After these things" introduces a new vision. The apostle John saw a group different from the 144,000 Jews. The contrasts between the groups are:
- This group is innumerable, not a definite number like 144,000.
- This group is '"from every nation." Redeemed Jews are evidently included since the word "kindreds" is literally '"tribes."
- They are described as wearing white "stoles" (not robes) and holding palms in their hands, depicting victory and joy.
- The great host is also different to the 144,000 as they are shown as ascribing praises to God and to the Lamb for their salvation (vs. 10). Thus the second half of the chapter demonstrates that many will be saved and come to Christ in the Tribulation period.

Today’s Sermon
Ed Potter, Missionary
Today we will hear from Ed Potter, missionary to Madeira that we have supported for many years. Ed and Abbie started out as missionaries in Brazil (1972-75) and then Madeira (since 1976). The church, Funchal Baptist Church, has about 45 members, representing around 10 nationalities. Total attendance on Sunday is about 100. Abbie is an accomplished, self-taught pianist and directs the church choir's presentation of cantatas at Christmas and Easter. Ed has taught English for 15 years; is a free-lance translator; and is a US Consular Agent for Madeira (since 2001). Their four children and their families live in Colorado (2), Arkansas, and Florida. Ed and Abbie’s blog address is madeirabaptist. blogspot.com.

All our sins and griefs to bare
