Farmer’s Dream
The school of agriculture's dean of admissions was interviewing a prospective student, "Why
have you chosen this career?" he asked. "I dream of making a million dollars in farming,
like my father," the student replied. “Your father made a million dollars in farming?"
echoed the dean much impressed. "No," replied the applicant. "But he always dreamed of it."

Today’s Sunday School Lesson

The Life of David
II Samuel 22: How to be Close to God
David gives us four truths about being close to God (from Charles Swindoll)
When times were tough, the Lord was his only security
When days were dark, the Lord was his only light
When his walk was weak, the Lord was his only strength
When his future was foggy, the Lord was His only hope

Today’s Sermon

Philippians 3:1-11
“One Thing, and One Thing Only”
The goal of every believer is to be the image of Christ in maturity; the image of Christ includes all the attributes of Christ including joy. “What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.” (Phil. 3:8, NIV)

Sunday School Stories

GOOD SAMARITAN
A Sunday school teacher was telling her class the story of the Good Samaritan, in which a man was beaten, robbed and left for dead. She described the situation in vivid detail so her students would catch the drama. Then she asked the class, "If you saw a person lying on the roadside, all wounded and bleeding, what would you do?" A thoughtful little girl broke the hushed silence, "I think I’d throw up."

DID NOAH FISH?
A Sunday school teacher asked, "Johnny, do you think Noah did a lot of fishing when he was on the Ark?" "No," replied Johnny. "How could he, with just two worms?"

Today’s Sunday School Lesson

The Life of David
II Samuel 22: How to be Close to God
David is talking to the Lord in prayer; this is David’s way of relating to God in conversation. Our lives ought to be seen in communication with God as one friend to another. How does God delight in us? Do we view God as our defender, as being “on our side” or do we assume He is against us?

Today’s Sermon

Philippians 2:16-30
Rejoicing with Like-Minded Brethren
“We have no more right to pour out discordant states of mind into the lives of those around us and rob them of their sunshine and brightness than we have to enter their houses and steal their silverware.” (Quote, Unquote, Julia Seton)
One of the great pleasures of our life is in meeting God’s people with whom we are comrades in the faith, who enjoy living, who can be consumed in the seriousness of the details of life and seek to perform them flawlessly and with excellence, yet maintain a sense of humor, a ready smile, a quick and hearty laugh, and a contagious joy.

Today’s Sunday School Lesson

The Life of David
II Samuel 22 David’s Great Psalm to the Lord
This chapter is a compilation of all the psalms that David wrote; it is a condensed form of all his psalms. A better title for this psalm is, “How to be close to God.”

Today’s Sermon

Philippians 2:12-18 Rejoicing in Service and Sacrifice
They were to allow their inward salvation to work out to outward fulfillment “with fear and trembling.” This is a reference to the humility and respect for a power outside themselves that they should give full awe and respect to in order for this working out to take place. If you think that you are God and in full control of your life, you will not allow the truth to work out. We must have the fear of God in our lives, which is all-important to true humility and obedience. When we speak of trying to live the Christian life “in our own power” we are referring to attempting to follow the Lord without the full fear and awe-inspired obedience that Paul is calling for here. We cannot truly follow God if we do not fear Him

Today’s Sunday School Lesson

The Life of David
II Samuel 20 and 21 Political Drama and Turmoil
The rebellion of Sheba; Joab’s murder of Amasa; the Famine; the end of Philistine wars

Today’s Sermon

From Humiliation to Exaltation
Philippians 2:5-11
Even though Jesus humbled Himself, He did not remain in that position. Once He had died on the cross for us and had fulfilled His mission as one of us, God brought Jesus back to His rightful position as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He freely and graciously gave Christ the highest name ever given. He was given not “a name,” but “the name,” since there is a definite article before “name.” He was exalted to the highest position of authority and given the greatest name with the greatest significance ever given. He who lowered Himself to become like us will be honored by all of us by our lowering ourselves before Him.

O Come Messiah come again, And rid the world of death and sin
Return Thou risen Savior and King
That heav’n and earth at last may sing
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel has come to thee, O Israel

Above Him stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of His glory.
