FREEDOM BAPTIST CHURCH - November 25, 2007

FREEDOM BAPTIST CHURCH
November 25, 2007
Today’s Sunday School Lesson
New Testament Postcards, I John 2:18-23 - Dealing with the Antichrists – one of the characteristics of the end of the world is apostasy
Today’s Sermon
I Corinthians 11:2-16
Christian Freedom and the Practice of Worship - Paul now discusses their freedom in Christ in relationship to their worship within the church. They were again exceeding responsible behavior in the way they were practicing their worship services in the church. Again the Corinthians took their freedom too far and were exhibiting carnality, this time from within the church in their worship services.

The Drought of 2007: It's so dry in North Georgia that the Baptists are starting to baptize by sprinkling, the Methodists are using wet-wipes, the Presbyterians are giving out rain-checks, and the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water. Now THAT's Dry

  • Our church Christmas fellowship will be Sunday night December 16 at 5:30pm. We will have a potluck dinner and sing Christmas music together. We hope to record this music for our families and loved ones around the world.
  • We will sign our new lease for three more years in this location and send it in. Your response to the challenge of this year has been wonderful and we can now look forward to three more years in this location. Lord willing, at the end of the next term I may be able to take early retirement and then devote more time to the church. Let us be in prayer that this may be the Lord’s will. However, we will obey Him no matter what the future holds.

Today’s Sunday School Lesson
New Testament Postcards: I John 2:8-11, Love is seeking the greatest good of another. It is present tense,” continually loves,” in verse 10. Close fellowship with Christ causes love to flow to the brethren, indeed, only by the Spirit (His fruit) in a yielded believer could there be genuine, true love for the brethren.
Today’s Sermon
I Corinthians 10:13-30, Run, Christian, Run! Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
The Sarah Corner – “And Sarah laughed”
Insured Voice: The choir director of a large church choir bragged before the congregation in a booming, bellowing voice: "Two years ago I insured my voice with Lloyds of London for $750,000." There was a hushed and awed silence in the crowded room. Suddenly, from the back of the room, the quiet, nasal voice of an elderly woman was heard, "So what did you do with the money?

We have received the figures for the new lease. The first year will be at $1554/month, a $67/month increase. The second year will be at $1624/month, a $70/month increase. The third year will be at $1697/month, a $73/month increase. This is a 4.5% increase per year which is essentially the same as before. This is the amount we expected and is within our current giving and expenses. We will need to confirm this as a church in order to move forward. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
We will have our Christmas potluck fellowship on Sunday night December 16 at 5:30pm. We will not have the Ladies Banquet this year but we will have a special celebration for our 20th anniversary as a church in January.

Today’s Sermon
I Corinthians 10:1-13, The Price of Disqualification - The Example of Israel, Appreciating the Privileges God has Given Us - And do not grumble, as some of them did-and were killed by the destroying angel. These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. (Vss. 10-11, NIV)
The Sarah Corner – “And Sarah laughed”
Strict Rules: My friend, the manager of a grocery store, nabbed a shoplifter in the act. He was escorting the suspect to the office in the front of the store (near the cash registers), when the shoplifter broke from his grip and tried to run. After a scuffle, my friend pinned him against the wall and looked up to see a number of surprised customers staring at him. "Everything's fine, Folks," he reassured them. "This guy just tried to go through the express line with more than ten items."

Announcements
We have not received the new lease yet, but an e-mail from the landlord this week indicates that the increase per month will be about the same as before; approximately $66/month per year (a 4.5% increase). Since we sent out our letter in March of this year, we have not had to draw from our savings account to meet our expenses and have had an over $66/month surplus each month. Therefore we would be able to maintain as a church over the next three-year lease term. Please pray and discuss this with each other. When I have a copy of the new lease I will confirm these numbers. Our 20th anniversary as a church will be January 31, 2008.
