Today’s Sermon

From Humiliation to Exaltation
Philippians 2:5-11
Even though Jesus humbled Himself, He did not remain in that position. Once He had died on the cross for us and had fulfilled His mission as one of us, God brought Jesus back to His rightful position as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He freely and graciously gave Christ the highest name ever given. He was given not “a name,” but “the name,” since there is a definite article before “name.” He was exalted to the highest position of authority and given the greatest name with the greatest significance ever given. He who lowered Himself to become like us will be honored by all of us by our lowering ourselves before Him.

O Come Messiah come again, And rid the world of death and sin
Return Thou risen Savior and King
That heav’n and earth at last may sing
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel has come to thee, O Israel

Scripture Reading

I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above Him stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of His glory.
Isaiah 6:1-3

Holy, Holy, Holy p. 262
