The Sarah Corner – “And Sarah laughed”
Silent Descent: Teddy came thundering down the stairs, much to his father's annoyance. "Teddy," he called, "how many more times have I got to tell you to come downstairs quietly? Now, go back upstairs and come down like a civilized human being." There was a silence, and Teddy reappeared in the front room. "That's better," said his father, "now in future will you always come down stairs like that." "Suits me," said Teddy. "I slid down the railing."
Today’s Sunday School Lesson
New Testament Postcards - I John 5:15-17, If He hears us in whatever we ask, then we know He knows our requests, and He answers them; not always as we pray but as we would ask if we were wiser. Notice also the promise here: not that He “gives” it, but that He “hears” it. We have our requests given to us as we would pray if we were wiser. We have the assurance that whatever He gives in response to our prayers is according to His desires and will not be bad for us. To quote Shakespeare,” “We, ignorant of ourselves, beg often our own harms/which the wise powers deny us for our good/so find profit by losing of our prayers.”
Today’s Sermon
I Corinthians 15:35-49, Shining Star for You to See, What Your Light can Truly Be
There are questions about our resurrection. It is a proven fact historically, logically, theologically and practically. But how is this going to happen? Facts sometimes breed questions.
We know some Corinthians denied the resurrection of Christ and their own resurrection. Paul seems to be answering an imaginary questioner in this section. These questions represent what some Corinthians objections were to the resurrection. Paul answered these questions with the analogy of the seed, the analogy from creation, the contrast of lesser to the greater in earthly and astronomical bodies, and the contrast of Adam to Christ.
